WHAT IS BANDAOKE?
Just like traditional karaoke, the idea is simple. You and your friends have the chance to get up and perform some of your favourite crowd-pleasing numbers. The difference is, that instead of using backing tracks, you’ll be accompanied by experienced live musicians! An extra microphone will be placed amongst the band’s line-up, ready for those keen volunteers to take their turn. All you need to do is simply browse our list of available tracks for the evening, put in your name and request and we’ll call you up to the stage to take over from our usual lead singer!
HOW WILL THE EVENING'S ENTERTAINMENT BE ORGANISED TO ACCOMMODATE BANDAOKE?
Having announced the list of karaoke tracks at the beginning, so that your guests have time to consider their choices, the band will kick off the proceedings with one of their typical live sets, which can last anywhere between 45 and 90 minutes. A thorough songbook and request slips will be available for the duration of this first set, so that the band can transition smoothly into the Bandaoke section once all forms have been submitted. Whilst the band take a short interval after their first set, they will compile the requests into a running order and each participant will be called up to take their turn accordingly during the second set. If there are a large number of requests, the band may choose to perform a third set as standard, after Bandaoke is complete, to close the evening.
HOW DO I KNOW WHICH SONGS WILL BE AVAILABLE?
Stereo Jack’s full repertoire is comprised of over 180 songs and can be found on our website. Depending on your personal preferences, this can be tailored to accomodate your favourite genres and artists - or we can provide our own skilful mix of timeless classics that span the decades and are guaranteed to please! On the night of your event, we will take into consideration the number of guests and the size of the venue in order to put together a bespoke selection of songs. There will be a box provided to collect all request slips, which will be closed for entries after the band have performed their first set. This is to allow time for the Bandaoke experience to be arranged during the interval and incorporated into the second set.
CAN MY GUESTS REQUEST THEIR OWN SPECIFIC SONGS ON THE NIGHT?
Unfortunately not! Stereo Jack do have an impressive song list, but we cannot accurately play numbers that we haven’t taken the time to learn carefully. We pride ourselves on the professional quality of our live performances, so we wouldn’t want to attempt anything that wasn’t well-rehearsed! However, if there is one song that your night wouldn’t be the same without, please let us know in advance, and we will try our best to include it, within the capacity of our instruments.
WILL THERE BE LYRICS?
Of course! Even Stereo Jack’s experienced members use lyrics to give themselves a reminder or two over the course of a performance! We use tablet devices to display the words for any song you may choose from our list during Bandaoke. Our lyric software allows you to change the font size to suit you and even has a auto-scroll feature that keeps pace with the musicians, so that you don’t have to swipe up and down for the next part of the song. Of course, if you know your request off by heart, feel free to go without lyrics like a real pro!
WHAT IF I MESS UP?
We prefer the term ‘remix’! Bandaoke isn’t to be taken too seriously and is supposed to just be a bit of fun! But to put your mind at rest, the band are professional and flexible musicians, who are fully capable of following the singer’s lead. If you miss a cue - not to worry - the band will simply adjust themselves to the part of the song you are singing. Our lead vocalist will also be there to guide you through and accompany you if you’re a bit apprehensive about singing on your own.
WHAT IF NOBODY WANTS TO SING?
In the unlikely event that none of your guests are up for putting a request in and committing to a particular number, the band will perform a standard second set of live music with an ‘open to volunteers’ stance. This means that our guest microphone will still be available to anyone who suddenly feels like joining in, alongside the full band, once they hear which song is next in the running order!
